Catherine Mary “Kay” Rubsam, age 94, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 8:05 AM - Friday, November 9, 2018, at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Tuesday, November 13 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Monday at the church. In loving memory of Kay, memorials may be made to Gigi’s Play House in the Quad Cities or St. Thomas School.

Catherine Mary, better known as “Kay” was born on July 25, 1924, in Elmhurst, Illinois, the daughter of John W. and Nellie (Hayes) Seger. She married Paul Rubsam on June 22, 1946, in Elmhurst, Illinois, and he preceded her in death July 6, 1997. Kay was a homemaker, wife and mother. She and her husband owned and operated Rubsam’s Ready to Wear in Newton for many years. Kay was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed fishing. She also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Kay is survived by: Children – John (Karen) Rubsam of Carlye, Illinois; Barb (Steve) Schulte of Newton, Illinois; David (Debbie) Rubsam of Yale, Illinois; Tricia (Tony) Schlanser of Beecher City, Illinois and Glen (Jayne) Rubsam of Newton, Illinois; Daughter-in-law – Treva Rubsam of Clayton, Indiana; 16 Grandchildren and 26 Great Grandchildren.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Daniel Rubsam, son-in-law Mel Zumbahlen, daughter-in-laws Barb Rubsam and Vicki Rubsam, brothers Bernie, John and Bob Seger and a sister Betty Engling.
