Wesley B. Koontz (98) of Mode

Wesley B. Koontz, 98, of Mode died at 12:01am Monday, January 14, 2013 in Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care in Effingham.

Funeral services will be 11am Wednesday at Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson.  Visitation will be from 10 to 11am Wednesday.  Burial in Stewardson Cemetery.  Pastor Kathy Lewis will officiate.

Memorials to the Stewardson Veterans Memorial Fund.

Wesley was born in Mode, IL May 8, 1914. He was the son of Bruce and Metta Hoagland Koontz and was a lifelong farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Geneva Beyer, Bernice Gerhard and Verna Morrison, and brothers William, Gwen and Earl Koontz.

He is survived by his sister Mildred Koontz of rural Mode, IL. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews: Steve (Barbara) Morrison of Kewanee, IL, Dennis Morrison of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Linda (Mike) McFarland of Mattoon, IL, Cindy (Lyle) Karsten of Newton, IA, Richard (Diane) Koontz of Norcross, GA, Tom Gerhard, John (Eileen) Gerhard and Arthur (Julie) Gerhard all living in Missouri.

Roger (Rosemary) Morrison preceded him in death in 2010.

He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews, as well as several great-great-nieces and nephews.

Wesley attended Old Mode School through 8th grade. He worked in 1942 in Detroit in the automobile industry as a milling machine operator and served in the Army during WW II, working as a Photo Lab Technician. After his service he came back and worked the farm with his family until he was 94 years old.
