Charles W. Finfrock (68) of Altamont

Charles W. Finfrock, 68 of Altamont died at 7:50 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., on Friday, May 18, 2012 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont, with Rev. LeRoy Tucker officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Union Cemetery, Altamont. Memorials may be made to the Charles Finfrock Scholarship Fund. Charles was born in Effingham on September 2, 1943 the son of Floyd and Elizabeth (Mascher) Finfrock. He was a retired teacher and coach beginning his career in the Bethalto school district for the first year and then twenty- three years at Brownstown Jr. High and Elementary School and then Vandalia Jr. High School for his last nine years. He was very proud of his record of coaching over 2,000 basketball games. Charlie was involved in almost every aspect of coaching, including baseball and track and field to go along with his basketball legacy. Charlie touched the lives of many kids during his long teaching and coaching career. Charlie also had previously been employed at Gieseking Funeral Home and Ambulance Service for many years.
He was a member of the Retired Teacher’s Association and a former member of the Illinois Education Association.
He leaves behind his sister, Linda Conway of Altamont, nephew Rick Conway and special friend, Michelle Landreth both of Effingham, great nephew, Tanner Conway and great nieces, Kamryn and Lakyn Conway.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
