Charles W. “Charlie” Gebben, 78 of Effingham, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 28, 2018 at HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with a 9:30 a.m. Knights of Columbus rosary and Fourth Degree service. A private family burial will be held in St. Anthony Cemetery following mass.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Anthony Schools or to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are in care of Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Online condolences may be left by clicking here.

Charlie was born June 18, 1940 in Effingham, the son of Aloysius and Rose (Kinkelaar) Gebben. He was a graduate of St. Anthony High School and Eastern Illinois University. Charlie was a member of St. Anthony Church in Effingham, Effingham Elks B.P.O.E. #1016 and a Fourth Degree member of the Effingham Knights of Columbus Council #665.  He was an avid golfer and bowler and was a fan of St. Louis Cardinals baseball.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Sue (Crown) Gebben; daughters, Tania (Darren) Powell and Teri (Alex) Kao; grandchildren, Stephen Powell, Sarina, Samantha and Nick Kao; sisters, Marcella (Robert) Behrman, Viola Green and Sylvia (Roy) Hartke; brothers, Richard Gebben and Andrew (Pat) Gebben; sisters-in-law, Eleanor Gebben, Lila Gebben and Judy Nosbisch. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Gene, Ray, Quirinus, Anthony and Steve; brother-in-law, Dick Green and sister-in-law, Jan Gebben.
