Sylvan Roy “Sid” Brackett, of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 11:30 PM – Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Casey Health Care Center in Casey, Illinois.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM – Sunday, July 15 at the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois, with Bro. Larry Matson officiating. Burial will be in the Honey Cemetery in Bogota, Illinois, with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held 2 hours before the service. Sylvan Roy, better known as “Sid” was born on February 10, 1932, in Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Millard and Dollie (Sparks) Brackett. Sid married Fonda Thomas on September 7, 1957, and she preceded him in death on September 12, 1978; he later married Margaret Ann (Houser) Dickerson on March 31, 1979, and she preceded him in death on April 15, 2018.

Sid served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Sid worked at Webster Ford in Newton for 25 years and later worked for Newton Body Shop for almost 30 years. He was a member of the Jasper Post #20 American Legion and the Post #7537 Harvey A. Pulliam VFW both in Newton, Illinois. Sid was an avid Chicago Bears Fan and enjoyed deer hunting.

Sid is survived by: Children – Eric (Karen) Brackett of Newton, Illinois; Maria (Glenn) Beard of Ocala, Florida; Becky (Shane) Johnson of Wheeler, Illinois; David (Kathy) Dickerson of Robinson, Illinois and Vickie Gillings of Ocala, Florida; Daughter-in-law – Barb Dickerson of Robinson, Illinois; Grandchildren – Nicole Brackett, Glenn (Ashley) Beard, III, John “B.J.” Gillings, Brandon Beard (special friend Michaela Singleton), Caleb Gillings, Jake Johnson (special friend Hannah Atwood), Shelby Beard (fiancé Jordon Boley), Jordan Beard, Brittany Gillings and Clint (Brittany) Woodward, Lori Johnson (special friend J.D. Finn), Tom (Julie) Dickerson, Jason (Ann) Dickerson, Wendy (Chet) Dobbins, Garrett (Sacha) Dickerson and Jana Dickerson (fiancé Albert Davis); 19 Great Grandchildren.

Sid was preceded in death by his parents, wives Fonda and Margaret, brothers Cloyce Bracett and Dorris Brackett, sisters Jewell Eveland, Eileen Force and Rosalee Logdson and step-son Steve Dickerson.
