Joni K. Springman, 64, of St. Elmo, died at 12:03 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at HSHS St. John’s Hospital, Springfield.

A memorial service will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 1 at the St. Elmo Christian Church with Tom Fedrigon, Dan Laack and Kurt Simon officiating. Burial will be at a later date at St. Bonaventure Cemetery, rural St. Elmo. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until service time. Memorials may be made to Lighthouse Pregnancy Center, Vandalia, St. Elmo Summer Lunch Program, or Fayette County Cancer Fund. Gieseking Funeral Home, Brownstown is assisting the family with arrangements.

Joni was born on Thursday, November 26, 1953 in St. Elmo to James and Helen (Fears) Koonce. She married Michael Springman on July 30, 1993 in Vandalia. She attended the St. Elmo Christian Church. She was an administrative assistant at Lighthouse Pregnancy Center, Vandalia. She had been a substance abuse counselor at the Vandalia Correctional Center, sports writer for the Vandalia Leader Union and secretary at the First Presbyterian Church, Vandalia.

She is survived by her husband, Michael, St. Elmo; mother, Helen Koonce, St. Elmo; brother Denny (Sharon) Koonce, Benton, MO; sister, Kari Beasley, St. Elmo; nieces and nephews, Andy (Halli) Koonce, Ashlyn Beasley, Britani Beasley, Katie Koonce and Connor Beasley; special family friends, Dylan and Morgan Myers.

Joni was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents.
