Marilyn Elaine Rubsam (85) of Newton, Illinois, passed away at 8:32 PM – Friday, May 18, 2018, at Newton Care Center in Newton, Illinois, surrounded by her eight children.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM – Wednesday, May 23 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, Illinois, with Fr. Dean Probst celebrating mass. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Newton, Illinois. Visitation will be held 4:00-7:00 PM – Tuesday at the church and 1 hour before the mass. In loving memory of Marilyn, memorials may be made to the St. Thomas School or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Marilyn was born on August 18, 1932, in the Bend, Jasper County, Illinois, the daughter of John and Bertha (Keller) Geiger.  She married Frank J. “Popeye” Rubsam on August 28, 1951, at St. Valentine’s Catholic Church in the Bend, Jasper County, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on June 22, 2006.

Marilyn was a homemaker, wife and loving mother.  Marilyn was a faithful member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, where she was very active in Altar Society, rosary group and taking care of funeral dinners.  She was also a member of the Knight’s of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Jasper Artisans, Jasper County Quilt Club, Jasper County Home Extension and was active in Jasper County Genealogy and Historical Society.Marilyn was an avid quilter and donated many of her quilts for church raffles and fund raisers.  She also enjoyed making crafts and tatting.

Marilyn was always ready and willing to help her community, church and neighbors in any way she could.

Marilyn is survived by: 8 Children – Donna (Philip) Kuhl of Newton, Illinois; Mary (Jim) Stuckey of Effingham, Illinois; Carol (Wendell) Hahn of Olney, Illinois; Debra Rubsam (friend Pamela Viano) of Villa Park, Illinois; Julie (Ed) Girhard of Newton, Illinois; Jerry (Vicki) Rubsam of Newton, Illinois; Cindy (Randy) Gorrell of Newton, Illinois and Richard (Mendy) Rubsam of Newton, Illinois; 20 Grandchildren 36 Great Grandchildren and Brother – Jim Geiger of Alexandria, Louisiana.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter Diane Rubsam, great grandchildren Melody Hahn and Evan Rubsam and a sister Marge Janes.
