Enoch V. Miller, 92, of Effingham, IL, passed away Thursday, May 3, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

Enoch V. (E.V./Junior/Buck) Miller was born on Oct. 3, 1925, at the Effingham home of his parents, Enoch V. Sr. and Carrie M. (Goodwin) Miller.

E.V. married Beulah Brady on Dec. 4, 1946 in Effingham, and their beautiful marriage lasted until Beulah's passing in 2004.

Five children were born to E.V. and Beulah; Dee (Steve) Allen, Jan (Bill) Granse, Tom (Karen) Miller, Cheri (Steve) Hayes, and Jim (Karen) Miller.  Tom died November 6, 2016.  Perhaps the greatest evidence of a married couple's lives being well lived is reflected in the character of their children and grandchildren, and to their everlasting credit, E.V. and Beulah leave behind that wonderful legacy.

E.V. and Beulah had 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

E.V. was a veteran of WWII and served in the Naval Air Service in Hawaii for the duration of the war.  Upon return home, with the assistance of his grandfather, Tom Miller, he built his own house.  That house became the home of an active family and was the center of activity for most of the neighborhood on the south side of Effingham.

E.V. passed away surrounded by family in that same house which nurtured not only family, but many other people who passed through in its seventy plus years of "home."

E.V. retired from Norge/Fedders after 38 years of employment.

E.V. was a master gardener, an accomplished self-taught musician, a wonderful story teller and a friend to many young people who needed a life mentor.  He was an experienced river fisherman and a man who could fix nearly anything that was broken.

E.V. was one of those rare individuals who was self-taught in a wide variety of disciplines.  EV was highly creative and that trait is clearly evident in his children and grandchildren.  He was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers, loyalties that have filtered down to his children and grandchildren.

E.V. was one of nine siblings, to include Ruth Bowlin Koester, Mary Ellen Donaldson, Jeanie Meyer, Wanda Finfrock, Don Miller, Shirley Yingst, Judy Kinney, and Jerry Miller.  Surviving siblings are Judy, Don, and Jerry.

E.V. is also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews, including very special nephew, Jim Bowlin.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Marine Corps League, Detachment 1207, Chula Vista, California. This organization provides wounded Marines with things they need which the government does not supply. Each dollar donated will be spent entirely on the Marines with no administrative expensive.  Checks should be made out to MCL DET 1207.  Your donations are deeply appreciated.
