Charles Edward Moon, 88 of Effingham, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Evergreen Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Effingham.

A time of visitation will be held from 4 to 7pm Wednesday, April 25 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham, with private family burial at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to Catholic Charities or to the donor’s choice.

Charles was born February 17, 1930 in Effingham, the son of Henry A. and Opal (Vaultenburg) Moon. He married Mary Ann “Eileen” Deters on October 22, 1955 and she preceded him in death in October of 1990. Charlie retired from Moon’s Service Station and Towing after owning and operating the business for over 25 years. He served in the United States Army and enjoyed farming, raising a variety of farm animals, attending auctions, spending time with and joking around with family and friends. For several years after the Army, Charlie ran a restaurant, worked in construction and at Lampkin Land. Charlie was happy to lend a helping hand to anyone he could and always had a piece of bubble gum for the kids who came to the gas station.

Charles is survived by his daughter, Pamela Rieman of Watson; son, Henry J. “Joe” (Mary Ann) of Pana; brother, Jerry (Shirley) Moon of Effingham; grandchildren, Tricia, Steve (Michelle), Amy (Dwayne), Kelli (Allen) and Adam (Diane); and 12 great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eileen; sisters, Henrietta Backs, Evelyn Flowers, Eileen Dukeman and Adeline Moon; brothers, Robert and James Moon.
