Richard L. Vail, 73, of Effingham died at 11:53 a.m., Friday, December 21, 2012 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 23, 2012 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont with Rev. Robert Tucker officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Point Baptist Church Cemetery, Shumway. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the funeral home. Mr. Vail was born on September 18, 1939 in Michigan to Walter W. and Jesse E. (Workman) Vail. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was retired as an over-the-road truck driver for Putnam Trucking, Effingham. He was a member of the American Legion, Effingham.

He is survived by: son; Les Vail of Kilgore, TX, daughters; Pam (Dan) LeCrone, Altamont, Ann (Kent) Bushue, Effingham, brothers; Robert (Eda Belle) Vail of Houston, AR, Ralph (Florence) Vail of Effingham, Kenneth (Pauline) Vail, Altamont, Gary (Jane) Vail, Charlotte, NC, Darrell Vail of Altamont, sisters; Virginia (Dale) Holland, Effingham, Evea (Art) Davidson, Altamont, Mary Kienietz, Clifton, CO, and Lois (Jim) Smith, O’Fallon and 4 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Donald Vail.
