Mary Ann Koester, 101 of Effingham, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Heartland Healthcare Center in Champaign.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 21 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the funeral mass. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery, Effingham. Lunch for family and friends will follow at the Thelma Keller Convention Center. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Mary Ann was born October 29, 1916, in Sigel, the daughter of John W. and Anna ( Schumacher) Wente. She married Raymond J. Koester on April 18, 1936 and he preceded her in death. She was employed by the Keller Ramada Inn, Effingham, for 25 years. Mary Ann was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church and St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women.

She is survived by two daughters, Marlene Romans (David Prior) of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Judy (Tim) Sehy of Champaign; 5 grandchildren, Michael (Linda) Romans of Bettendorf, Iowa, Michelle Romans of Battle Creek, Michigan, Melanie (Chad) Wehrman of Denver, Colorado, Luke (Ashly) Sehy of St. Louis, Missouri and Zachary (Allyson) Sehy of Champaign; 8 great-grandchildren, Daniel and Nathan Romans of Bettendorf, Iowa, Cade and Sloane Wehrman of Denver, Colorado, Emerson and Rye Sehy of St. Louis, Missouri and Melia and Miles Sehy of Champaign.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Florence Waldhoff, Lydia Horn, and Eleanor Althoff Steel, and son-in-law, Larry Romans.
