Leonard W. Unkraut, 94 of Effingham, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Lakeland Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Effingham.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 4 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Effingham with burial in St. Anthony Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the church, with a family service prior to the visitation and a 6:30 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary. Memorial donations may be made to St. Anthony Grade School.

Leonard was born May 4, 1923 in Effingham, the son of Ben and Lena (Westjohn) Unkraut. He married Mary Augusta "Gustie" Bloemer on June 19, 1948. Leonard was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, St. Anthony Booster Club and a Fourth Degree member of the Effingham Knights of Columbus Council #665. Leonard spent many years volunteering at The Cross, as well as the Meals on Wheels program for F.I.S.H.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Mary Augusta of Effingham; daughters, Mary Lynn (Larry) Byers of Effingham, Sue (Brian) Hartke of Dieterich, Deb (Mark) Sherrick of Greenup, Carlene (Tony) Weber of Effingham, Barbara (Scott) Gidcomb of Savoy, Kay (Ted) Garcia of Appleton, WI and Jean (Fritz) Drasgow of Urbana; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ray, Bernard and Joe; sisters, Mary Tegeler and Loretta Koester; and infant daughter, Elizabeth.
