Marvin E. Elmore, 93, of Wheeler, Illinois, passed away at 7:55 AM – Thursday, March 29, 2018, at his home.

Funeral services celebrating Marvin’s life will be held at 10:00 AM – Tuesday, April 3, at the Latona Church of Christ in Latona, Illinois. Burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery west of Latona, Illinois, with full military rites by the Jasper Post #20 American Legion. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM Monday at the church. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Marvin was born on February 14, 1925, in rural Jasper County, Illinois, the son of Homer and Mamie (Clagg) Elmore. He married Dorothy Lee Cowger on April 4, 1948, at Newton Christian Church and she preceded him in death on May 27, 2016. Marvin served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Marvin was a lifelong farmer and took pride in tending to his farm. Marvin was a faithful member of the Latona Church of Christ and served as an Elder for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Marvin is survived by:  Children – Lee (Donna) Elmore and Susie (Clint) Williams of Newton, Illinois; Grandchildren – Kim (Jesse) Yager of Newton, Illinois; Clayton Williams of Newton, Illinois and Jamee (Doug) Line of Newton, Illinois; Great Grandchildren – Taylor Line, Hayden Shamhart-Williams, Brayden Line, Haylee Line, Hunter Yager and Mika Yager; Sister – Beverly (Paul Dean) Flinn of Milton, Florida; Brothers – Vonley and Roscoe Elmore both of Wheeler, Illinois; Sheldon (Betty) Elmore of Mason, Illinois and Loren (Norma Jean) Elmore of Johnsonville, Illinois; Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law – Claire Elmore, Rosemary Elmore, Ada Elmore, Rondle (Mabel) Cowger and Jim Cowger.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, father and mother-in-law Laurence and Olga Cowger, sisters Ilene Corso and Kathleen Elmore, brothers Alvin, Dean and Merle Elmore.
