Clifford A. Vail, 89, of Shumway, IL, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017, at Lakeland Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Effingham.

As per Clifford’s wishes, cremation rites with be accorded. Memorial services will be held Saturday, March 24 at 2pm at the Kluthe Center in Shumway. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, IL. Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.

Clifford was born on January 27, 1928, in Banner Township, Effingham County, IL, the son of William J. and Mary (Knierim) Vail. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict with the 70th Tank Battalion. Clifford was a member of the Effingham VFW #1769, Beecher City American Legion Post 535, and the Baptist Foundation of Illinois. He was a county board committee member for the ASCS for over 25 years. Clifford farmed with his brother and enjoyed bowling and mowing his yard.

Clifford is survived by his brother, Delmar Vail of Shumway; sister-in-law, Arlene Vail of Shumway; and beloved dog, “Skipper.”

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Velva Vail and Mary “Ellie” Pfeiffer; and brothers, John Henry Vail and Wendell Vail.
