David was born on July 27, 1939, in Effingham, IL, the son of Clarence R. and Norma (Zehner) Wernsing. He married Sandra Peters on September 2, 1961. They were blessed with two beautiful children: a son, David, and a daughter, Jennifer. Dave earned a B.S. from Parks College of Aeronautical Technology, St. Louis University in 1960. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a communications officer at Andrews Air Force Base, Camp Springs, MD. He was honorably discharged in 1966 as a rank of Captain. Dave was then employed in marketing of mainframe computers for Control Data Corporation in Minneapolis, MN. He later transferred to the East Coast where the family resided in South Orange, NJ until his retirement, when they then moved back home to Effingham. Dave enjoyed caring for his lawn, boating and teaching his four beloved grandchildren how to catch fish. Boating fun when the grandchildren celebrated July 4th on Lake Sara was the highlight of his year.

David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandi Wernsing of Effingham; son, David R. (Margaret) Wernsing of Fanwood, NJ; daughter, Jennifer (Frank) Premutati DVM of Pacific Grove, CA; grandchildren, David Joseph “DJ” Wernsing and Zoe Catherine Wernsing both of Fanwood, NJ, and Francesco David Premutati and Marcello Salvatore Premutati both of Pacific Grove, CA; and sisters, Kathy (Kevin) Utz of Effingham and Judy DeVore of St. Charles, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
