Doris M. Austin (83) of Mason

Doris M. Austin, 83, of Mason, IL, passed away on her husband’s birthday on Friday, January 26, 2018 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 29 at the Watson Baptist Church in Watson, IL. Burial will be held in Mason Union Cemetery in Mason, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Monday all at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham, IL. In loving memory of Doris, memorials may be made to the Watson Baptist Church or donor’s choice.

Doris was born on March 17, 1934, in Effingham County, IL, the daughter of Gerald and Faneta (Nave) Norris. She married William E. Austin on May 24, 1955, and he preceded her in death on September 17, 1993. Before Doris became ill she enjoyed wintering in Mission, Texas where she made many wonderful friends. She loved working in the mission doing whatever was needed that day, painting walls, cleaning or sitting at the sewing machine. She also loved to go to the dances and enjoyed the Edgewood Opry every Friday night. Doris was a member of Watson Baptist Church.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Donna (Keith) Banning of Edgewood, IL and Velda (Larry) Gunckle of Iuka, IL; grandchildren, Amanda Tonn and Toby Banning both of Edgewood, IL and Jared (Megan) Klier of Iuka, IL; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Montana, Maci and Madison Tonn all of Edgewood, IL and Adelyn, Greysen and Morgan Klier, and Matthew Thompson all of Iuka, IL; sisters, Geraldine “Jerrie” (husband, Don) Helm Schwartz of Altamont, IL and Carol (Clayton) Case of Farina, IL; sister-in-law, Donna Norris of Vandalia; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill; brother, Jack Norris; sister, Patricia (Larry) Nelson, and a sister in infancy, Virginia.
