Betty Jean Tabbert, 75, of Effingham, IL, passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL, surrounded by loved ones.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 13 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Effingham. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home in Effingham and one hour Saturday prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham.

Betty was born on October 12, 1942 in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Harold and Cora (Dammerman) Miller. She was united in marriage to Herbert Tabbert on February 25, 1968, and to this union two children were born. Betty graduated from Altamont High School in 1960. She worked a few years at The Garment Factory in Altamont, and then worked at Fedders for ten years. She spent about 25 years providing in-home daycare and taught Sunday School at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Effingham for over 15 years. Betty enjoyed crocheting, cross-stitch, and playing pinochle with neighbors.

Betty is survived by her husband, Herbert Tabbert of Effingham; son, Darren (Jackie) Tabbert of Effingham; daughter, Valerie (Brian) Wright of Florence, KY; grandsons, Kendall Tabbert and Kolten Tabbert both of Effingham; sisters, Glenda Poehler of Ingraham and Myrna (Danny) Hites of Edgewood; brothers, Ronnie Miller of Altamont and Floyd (Ruth Ann) Miller of Altamont; brothers-in-law, Duane Poehler of Dieterich and Max Tabbert of Windsor; sisters-in-law, Alma Ruth Perry of Mattoon and Gail Rinker of Strasburg; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Janice Poehler.
