Janet Rose Baker, 73, of Jewett Illinois passed away at 4:32PM Friday, January 5, 2018 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Coles County.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 am Wednesday, January 10 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel Greenup, Il. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00pm Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in the Mullen Cemetery. Memorials in her name can be made to the Jewett Community Church.

Janet was born in Effingham County on November 14,1944 to Robert and Lillian (Lineberry) Shafer. She married Thurman E. “Gene “Baker on July 31st, 1963, he preceded her in 2008.

Surviving are her children Thurman E “Butch”(wife Toni) Baker Jr. of Dieterich, Kelly (husband Jeff) Swingler of Sigel, daughter Shelly Baker of Dieterich and son Robert (wife Stacy) Baker of Berne, Indiana; Sister June Nelson-Teets of Jewett,  Grandchildren Ashton Baker of Flora, Payton (wife Carly) Baker of Indianapolis Indiana, Megan (husband Drew) Klingler-Cantwell of Baton Rouge LA, William Klingler of Clay City, Ty Swingler of Sigel, Dakota Swingler of Sigel, Levi Swingler of Sigel, Kasi Helmink of Muncie IN, Jake (fiancé Courtney) Helmick of Toledo, Cody, Jade and Cora Baker of Berne IN; Great grand daughters Harper Denton of Flora and Carsyn Helmink of Toledo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Bobby Shafer and grandson Conner Gene.

Janet was a homemaker and retired from Kern Manufacturing. She enjoyed the art of needle point, was an avid bowler and while her kids were in school she was very active in the CHS Booster Club. Janet’s pride and joy were her children and grandchildren and whatever they were doing she was there.
