John L. Verdeyen, 80 of Teutopolis, passed away Sunday morning, December 3, 2017 at Sharon Health Care of Peoria.

A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 6 at St. Francis Cemetery in Teutopolis. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

John was born June 18, 1937 in Watson, the son of Frank and Della (Bushue) Verdeyen. He served with the United States Marine Corp. from May of 1955 to April of 1959. During his time in the service, John married Elvira Hartke and she preceded him in death in 1972. John then married Linda Goeckner in 1974 and they later divorced. He was a long-time carpenter and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Teutopolis, as well as the Teutopolis Knights of Columbus Council #2874.

John is survived by his son, John J. (companion, Robin) of Neoga; daughters, Karen (Doug) Baur of Jacksonville and Angela Shoot of Effingham; brother, Larry (Judy) Verdeyen of Stewardson; sisters, Ada (Rex) Foreman of Strasburg and Joyce (Randy) Holste of Midlothian; grandchildren, Chad Yingst, Jerome Verdeyen, Wesley Verdeyen, Tony Verdeyen, Troy Verdeyen, Douglas Baur, Rebecca Baur, Cory Crainick and Allison Crainick.

John was preceded in death by his parents; son, Paul and brothers, Lloyd, Floyd and Paul.
