Michael W. "Mike" Greenwood, 61, of Olney died peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Deaconess VNA Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville, IN with his family present.

A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Johnson Funeral Home, 1110 N. Fourth Street, Effingham. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests all donations be made to the Illinois Wildlife Preservation Fund.

Mike was born January 31, 1956 in Effingham, IL, the son of James and Lyda (Brown) Greenwood. Mike was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and various sports such as softball, water skiing and golf. He was a big hearted loving fiancé, father, grandfather and friend. Mike’s favorite pastimes also included keeping the family informed on the weather (weather channel), whistling like a song bird, rescuing animals and displaying his colorful flair for story telling with poetry and one-liners.

Mike is survived by his fiancée, Joyce Leist of Olney, IL; daughters, Shae (Lucas) Calcari of St. Charles, MO and Cory (Steven) Carlson of St. Thomas, USVI; son, Michael (Roxana) Greenwood of Pompano Beach, FL; step-children, Derek (Katie) Leist of Nashville, TN and Deidre (Dan) Brown of St. Louis, MO; grandchildren, Bella and Mia Calcari, Everly Leist, and one on the way; mother, Lyda Greenwood of Effingham, IL; siblings, Brenda (John) Wilson of Toledo, IL, Scott (Karla) Greenwood of Effingham, IL, and Eric (Liz) Greenwood of Effingham, IL.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lawrence and Twynatte Brown and Elza “Dutch” and Addie Greenwood; father, James Greenwood; and nephew, Jason Jennings.
