Kenneth Edward "Ed" Howe, 76, of Newton died at 10:40pm Monday, October 15, 2012 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 PM – Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton, IL. At 7:00 PM there will be a flag presentation and service of remembrance to follow. Kenneth Edward better known as Ed was born on October 1, 1936 in Mt. Carmel, IL the son of William Vern and Verla Catherine (Liddle) Howe. He had fond memories of summers spent with his grandparents in Friendsville, IL. Ed served his country in the United States Army in South Korea. After graduating from Southern Illinois University he went to work at the Social Security Administration in Chicago, IL and retired from there after many years of service. Upon his retirement in 1997 he moved to Newton, IL. Ed enjoyed playing bridge, poker, reading and collecting glassware.
Ed is survived by: Brother – Wayne Howe of Newton, IL...Sister – Ann Merrick of Evansville, IN...and 2 Nephews – David and Joe Merrick
Ed will be missed by them and his steadfast housekeeper Stephanie Wagner, who was like a daughter to him.
