Nicholas was born on May 2, 1990, in Fort Belvoir, VA, the son of Mark and Donna (Aldrich) Barnes. Nicholas had a zest for life. His contagious personality and smile was felt by all when he entered a room. He loved spending time with his daughter by going to the park, zoo, museums and other adventures. Nicholas loved St. Louis and the fast paced city life. He loved traveling, long heartfelt conversations, being outdoors, reading books, shopping a little too much, and spending time with family and friends. He had a heart of gold and was one-of-a-kind. Nicholas was also known for his thirst of world news and challenging debates about news, history and politics. He always loved an intellectual challenge. He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Nicholas is survived by his daughter, Addison Mae Barnes; mother, Donna Aldrich (Daryl) Smith of Effingham; father, Mark Barnes; sister, Ashley Barnes-Haarmann of Effingham; niece, Zoe; nephews, Zaiden and Oliver; and grandparents, Larry and Nina Aldrich and Larry and Barbara Barnes, all of Effingham.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents; and nephew, Tucker.
