Lawrence A. Michl, 99, of Newton, IL and formerly of Ste. Marie, IL passed away at 2:55 PM – Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Newton Rest Haven.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM – Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton, IL with Fr. Al Kemme celebrating mass. Burial will be in the St. Valentine’s Cemetery in the Bend, Jasper County, IL. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM – Monday, October 8, 2012 at the church. Lawrence was born on January 21, 1913 in the Bend, Jasper County, IL the son of August and
Phelaminia (Kerner) Michl. He married Sophia Hoffman on June 4, 1936 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, IL. Lawrence owned and operated Michl’s Garage in Ste Marie for many years and later worked at Rohr’s Chevrolet in Newton was also a farmer. He was a member of the St Thomas of the Apostle Catholic Church in Newton. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting and tinkering on motors.

Lawrence is survived by: Wife of 76 years Sophia Michl of Newton, IL...8 Children – Fred (Linda) Michl of Olney, IL, Jeanette (David) Kramer of Georgetown, TX, Francis (Linda) Michl of Geneva, IL, Judy (Marty) Barnett of Gilbert, AZ, Michael (Jane) Michl of Grand Chain, IL, Daniel (Sandy) Michl of Murray, KY, Mary (Roy) Toland of Newton, IL, JoAnne (Jack) Howard of Houston, TX...Brother – Patrick Michl of Effingham, IL...Numerous Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; son Larry Michl; 4 Sisters Monica Dhom, Louise Anderson, Bernice Seiler and Helen Michl; 2 Brothers Xavier and Marion Michl.
