Mildred Marie “Millie” (Ochs) Schmidt, 96, of Ste. Marie, Illinois, passed away at 6:16 PM – Saturday, March 5, 2016, at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM – Wednesday, March 9 at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois, with Fr. Robert Spriggs celebrating mass. Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ste. Marie, Illinois. Visitation will be held 5:00-8:00 PM – Tuesday, at the church and 1 hour prior to mass. Memorials may be made to the Ste. Marie Monday night dance, Jasper County Senior Citizens Center or St. Anthony’s Hospice. Arrangements are under the care of the Meyer Funeral Home in Newton, Illinois.

Mildred Marie better known as “Millie” was born on May 27, 1919 in Ste. Marie, Illinois, the daughter of Albert and Anna (Savoy) Ochs. She married Francis Bernard Schmidt on March 25, 1940, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois, and he preceded her in death on September 16, 1976. Millie worked in the garment factory in Newton, Illinois; as a cook at Ste. Marie School; and as a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Ste. Marie, Illinois. Millie was active in the Ste. Marie Monday night dances and delivered Senior Citizens meals to the residents in Ste. Marie. She enjoyed quilting, bowling, gardening, playing cards, bingo, and Scrabble. Her greatest treasure was her family and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was always ready for a card game of 7-UP.

Millie is survived by: Children – Francis (Linda) Schmidt, Jr of Faulkton, South Dakota; Janet (Charles) Rudolphi of Carlyle, Illinois; Barbara Martin (Phil Erlenbach) of Mebane, North Carolina; Celeste (Lee) Webster of Springfield, Illinois; Marilyn (Lee) Bahney of Kansas; and Donald Schmidt (Sandy Hartrich) of Ste. Marie, Illinois...18 Grandchidren...Numerous Great Grandchildren and Great Great Grandchildren.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Lawrence, Robert, Bernard, Louis and Raymond Ochs; sisters, Gladys Emmerich, Dorothy Selzer and Clara Ochs.
