Paula May (Sill) Lidy, 63, of Newton, Illinois passed away at 3:55 a.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. Al Kemme celebrating the mass. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Sunday, April 29 in the church with a 4:30 p.m. vigil service. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Newton. Memorial gifts for Paula may be made to the family. Paula was born September 4, 1948 in Salem, the daughter of Cleo (Toby) and Fawn (Nichols) Sill. Paula graduated from Salem High School in 1966 and from Eastern Illinois University in 1970. Paula married Terrence J. Lidy October 30, 1976. Paula taught in Jasper County schools and for ROE 12 Optional Education before beginning her tenure at the Newton Press Mentor. Paula was a 22 year employee as a writer and later editor for the paper. Paula was a parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. She was an active member of the community, especially when it came to Jasper County schools. Paula loved attending community events and taking pictures. Paula was known for being the "picture lady" for Jasper County. Paula was a member of the Newton Rotary Club, past secretary, the Jasper County Health Board and home extension.
Paula is survived by her husband of 35 years, Terrence (Terry) Lidy of Newton; daughter, Kara (husband Michael) Martino of Tinley Park; son, Paul (wife Sarah) Lidy of Decatur and three grandchildren, Dathan and Kinsley Lidy and Daniel Martino.
Paula was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo (Toby) and Fawn Sill.
