Verle "Chip" Trier (85) of St. Elmo

Verle “Chip” Trier, 85, of St. Elmo passed away at 6:37 a.m. Saturday, September 8, 2012 at his home surrounded by loved ones.

Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 11 at New Horizon Church
in St. Elmo.  A celebration of his life will be at 8:00 p.m. following visitation. Arrangements are being handled by C & A Pagel Funeral Home, St. Elmo, IL.  Memorials are requested to St. Elmo Food Pantry and Caring and Sharing to which he donated many hours of his time, or to the American Cancer Society, or the American Lung Association.

Chip was born November 10, 1926 in Keota, IA to Raymond and Cora (Baker) Trier.  He married Sallie Evans on April 2, 1983. He served in the Navy during WWII aboard the troop carrier, USS General A. E. Anderson. Chip relocated from Harper, IA to St. Elmo in 1967 with the Natural Gas Pipeline Co. of America where he retired in 1986.  He was an avid golfer, fisherman, hunter and woodsman. He was active in the community, serving on the first Zoning
Board in 1991 and served 10 years on the St. Elmo City Council. He also served on the Deken Park and Golf Club as a board member.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #420, and the VFW of Altamont.

Surviving are his wife, Sallie, sons, Jim (wife, Tamey), Jerry (wife, Linda), Jeff (fiancé, Reba Higgs) and Marty (wife, Rebecca) Evans and daughters, Judy Trier and Sheila (husband, Mark) Austin and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, two sisters, Lavonne (Frank)
Kerkove and Vernetta Crawford of Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Joe, Bob and Denny Trier.
