Genevie B. Shamhart, 93, of Newton died at 2:40am Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Lakeland Health Care Center in Effingham.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM – Saturday, September 8, 2012 at the Blake-Wright Funeral Home in Dieterich, IL with Dale Hood officiating.  Burial will be in the Bailey Cemetery in Latona, IL.  Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM – Friday, September 7, 2012 at the Blake-Wright Funeral Home with Eastern Star rites at 8:00 PM.  Memorials may be made to the Order of the Eastern Star Newton Star Chapter #497.

Genevie was born on December 17, 1918 in Jasper County, IL the daughter of Aaron and Beulah (Clark) Rife.  She married John Howard Shamhart in December 1936 and he preceded her in death December 2001.

Genevie was co-owner of Reliable Tool in Des Plaines, IL and a member of the Central Christian Church.  She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Newton Star Chapter #497.  Genevie enjoyed quilting and belonged to the quilters club and enjoyed collecting antiques and treasures.

Genevie is survived by: 5 children – Loretta (Tom) Feller of Seneca, IL, Dennis (Lisa) Shamhart of Newton, IL, Shelia (John) Brockman of Hanover Park, IL, Rita (Tom) Gagliano of Newton, IL and Gregg (Cathy) Shamhart of Huntley, IL...Daughter-in-Law – Lenora Shamhart of Newton, IL...18 Grandchildren...26 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great Great Grandchildren.

Genevie was preceded in death by her parents, son Warren Shamhart; granddaughter Erin Starr Feller and 2 brothers Sylvan “Todd” Rife and Maurice “Reese” Rife.
