Gale E. Hammer, 55 of Effingham, died at 8:20 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont with Dr. Roger Marshall officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 and for one hour prior to service time at the funeral home. Gale was born on October 15, 1956 in Effingham, IL the son of Herbert A. and Genevieve L. (Soltwedel) Hammer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Effingham. Gale had been actively involved with A.R.C.- Community Support Services of Teutopolis for many years and had served as a board member in the past.
He is survived by his brother, Mearl Hammer and his wife Karen of Altamont, sister, Ila Alwardt and her husband LeRoy of Mason, nephews, Jim Hammer and his wife Leigh of Effingham and Bill Hammer of Altamont, great niece, Tierney Hammer and great nephews, Donovan and Liam Hammer, all of Effingham. Additionally he leaves behind his extended family at A.R.C. and especially those at Oakview.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
