LeRoy W. "Bud" Slifer, 78, of Effingham died at 5:10am Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Private family graveside services will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Effingham.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials may be made to the Friends of St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham. LeRoy “Bud” was born on August 7, 1934 in Effingham, IL, the son of John Henry and Lula (Poe) Slifer. He married Betty A. Martin on March 6, 1953 in Effingham. She preceded him in death on July 18, 2012.  Bud, along with his wife, Betty, owned and operated Double B Western Store in Effingham for more 36 years. He was a building contractor in the area. Bud owned “the stage” when he played his washtub bass along with the local musicians. He enjoyed fishing, horseback riding in Southern Illinois, camping in Montrose, camp cooking,
and baking cakes for his family and friends. Bud also enjoyed the company of his IGA cowboys. Bud was an avid supporter of the Illinois High School Rodeo Association, Effingham County 4-H, and the Little Buckaroo Saddle Club.

Bud is survived by his daughter, Kenna (Steve) Endebrock of Effingham; son, Troy Slifer of Effingham; grandchildren, Kayla Endebrock of Effingham and fiance, Doug Bierman, Kent Endebrock of Teutopolis and fiancee, Jamie Stone; and Cody Slifer of Savoy; brother, John E. Slifer of Effingham; sister, Betty Jean Scott of Casey; and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Betty.
