Arthur S. Schroeder, 88, of Altamont died at 5:20am Thursday, April 12, 2012 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services will be Sunday, April 15, at 2pm at Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, south of Altamont.  Visitation will be from 6-8pm Saturday at Kull Funeral Chapel in Altamont and from 1 to 2pm Sunday at the church.  Burial in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Cemetery.  Memorials to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Care Center.

He was born January 18, 1924 in the Bethlehem Community into the family of Edward H. and Martha Yagow Schroeder.  He was a grain farmer.  He was never married.  He was a life member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church and the Effingham County Farm Bureau.  He enlisted in the US Army on March 14, 1945 and served until being honorably discharged on November 29, 1946.  He had an acute interest in music.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Marilyn Schroeder of DeKalb and Lorene Schroeder of Altamont and several nieces and nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents...six brothers, Clarence and wife Marie Schroeder, Otto and wife Mabel Schroeder, Albert and wives Hilma and Marie Schroeder, Carl and wife Hilda Schroeder, Louis and first wife Hilma Schroeder, and Elvin Schroeder...and four sisters, Esther and Evelyn in childhood, Ella in her youth, and Paula Schwerdtfeger and husband Elmer.
