Gertrude A. Smith, 90 of Effingham, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday evening, April 10, 2012 at St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Funeral services for Gertrude will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Effingham. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m, Saturday morning at Hall Funeral Chapel in Effingham. Burial will be in St. Anthony Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart and St. Anthony Schools.

Gertrude was born on January 3, 1922 in Effingham Co, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Lawrence) Cornell. She was a seamstress at the Illinois Glove Factory in Effingham for many years. Gertrude was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Catholic Daughters of America and the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include: son; Joseph L. (Margaret) Smith of Brookfield, IL, 2 daughters; Patricia Pike and Mary Beth (David) Stuckey of Effingham, 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great- great grandchild, 3 brothers; Herman (Delores) Cornell of Effingham, Richard (Barbara) Cornell of Teutopolis and Thomas (Doris) Cornell of Effingham, 3 sisters; Teresa Miller of Mattoon, Madonna Bushur of Effingham and Verena Niemerg of Bishop Creek.

Gertrude enjoyed reading, family gatherings, and especially spending time with her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers; Virgil and George Cornell and 3 sisters; Loretta Berchtold, Marie Hicks and Bernadette Norman.
