Robert G. Hewing, 79 of Sigel, passed away at 6:55 A.M on Friday, August 29, at his residence in Sigel.

A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A. M., Wednesday, September 3, 2014, in the St. Michael The Archangel Church of Sigel, IL with the Rev. Father, Sunder Ery officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday, September 2, 2014, in the St. Michael The Archangel Church of Sigel, with a 7:00 P.M., Wake Service, followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary. Burial will be in the St. Michael Cemetery of Sigel, Illinois. Military Services will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post # 4325 of Mattoon, IL. Swengel-O'Dell Funeral Home of Neoga is in charge of arrangements.

He was born August 22, 1935, in Effingham, Illinois, the son of Bernard and Laura (Deters) Hewing. Bob was a member of the St. Michael The Arch Angel Church of Sigel, Knights of Columbus of Sigel, Illinois, I.L.B.A Area # 51 (IL Licensed Beverage Assoc.). He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960. Bob married Jane Meinhart, July 5, 1958 in the St. Joseph Church in Island Grove, Illinois. He was an operator of the Sigel Grocery of Sigel, and a self employed carpenter. Bob leaves his wife, Jane Hewing of Sigel, IL after fifty-eight years of marriage; one son, Gerald Hewing of Sigel, IL; four daughters, Karen McCloskey and husband Dennis of Philadelphia, PA, Rita Hewing of Sigel, IL, Donna Fancher and husband James of Mason, IL and Joyce Crotser and husband Rob of Mt. Airy, MD; two brothers, Don Hewing and wife Ann of Philo, IL and Arthur Hewing and wife Vivian of rural Neoga, IL; fifteengrandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mr. Hewing was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Patricia Probst; one sister, Rosemary Krone; three brothers, Edward Hewing, Kenneth Hewing and James Hewing.
