Gerald L. "Jerry" Gibson, 78, of Effingham, IL, passed away Thursday, April 3, 2014, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Monday, April 7, 2014, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Effingham, with the Rev. Ted Gall and Rev. Earl Brown officiating. Burial will be in Arborcrest Memorial Park, Effingham. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p. m. Sunday, April 6, 2014 at the church and also one hour Monday before the services at the church. Services are in the care of Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham.

Gerald was born on October 27, 1935, in Taylorville, IL, the son of Walter and Elizabeth (Falassi) Gibson. He married Anna Mae Miller on March 28, 1965, and she survives. Jerry was a veteran of the United States Army. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Effingham. Jerry held various offices in the church as an elder, trustee, Sunday School Superintendent, president of the voter's assembly, and also caretaker of the church grounds. He worked for Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company for 39 ½ years starting as a lineman and retired as a regional manager in the Effingham office. He was a past member of the Pioneers Club. He served as a president of the Effingham Quarterback Club (now known as the Effingham Sportsbackers). He was an avid golfer. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and activities. Jerry loved his children and grandchildren very much.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Anna Mae Gibson of Effingham; children, Jennifer (husband, Kelly) Smith of Monticello, Michael (wife, Stacy) Gibson of Effingham, and Mitchell (wife, Jill) Gibson of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Zachary Smith, Emily Smith, Hannah Smith, Matt Gibson, Drew Gibson, Sydney Gibson, and Anna Gibson; and sister, Marjorie (husband, David) Juelich of Springfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
