Charles A. “Bud” Winnett, 81, of Greenup, IL passed away at 7:33 pm on July 22, 2012 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Care in Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am on Thursday July 26, 2012 at the Barkley Funeral Chapel in Greenup, IL. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday evening at the funeral chapel. Burial with Military rites will be in the Harmony Cemetery rural Greenup.
He was born in Greenup, IL on October 16, 1930 to Marshall & Dorothy (Cutright) Winnett. He married Anita Deanne Johnson on April 9, 1955 and she preceded him in 2009. Surviving are Sons Ray wife Sandy Winnett of Brazil, IN, Brad Winnett and special friend Joni James of Greenup, Jeff wife Nicole Winnett of Greenup; daughters Jill husband Dan Kimble of Greenup and Trina husband Stan Gentry of Greenup; Brother James wife Sandy Winnett of Casey; Sister Maryjean Daughhetee of Paris; a sister in law LuEllyn Cherry of Arcola; 9 grandchildren Mindy Brant of Greenup, Staff Sargent Aaron Gentry of Alconbury, England, Brandi Wendte of Dieterich, Mandi Finn of Greenup, Alison Kimble of Greenup, Nicholas Kimble of Greenup, Ethan, Shelby and Isaiah Winnett of Greenup, 2 step grandchildren Brian Gibson of Tampa, FL and James Gibson of Brazil, IN; 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Bud was an assembly specialist at Blaw-Knox and retired after working 40 years, He served in Korea with the Air Force from 1950 to 1953 with the 17th Bomb Wagon. He was a member of the Cumberland County Sportsman’s Club served as president from 1961 to 1988 at was a board member till present. Member of the Greenup V.F.W. and Greenup American Legion. He enjoyed fishing the river, cooking and going to the Cumberland County Fair. Thru the years he owned several Thoroughbred race horses.
