Lloyd Carson, Sr., 64, of St. Elmo died at 11:17pm Friday, July 20, 2012 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 24, at 10:30am at C&A Pagel Funeral Home in St. Elmo.  Burial with military graveside rites by St. Elmo American Legion Post #420 will follow in Maplewood Cemetery in St. Elmo.  Visitation is from 9:30 to 10:30am Tuesday.  Memorials to Horizons Daycare.

He was born on December 11, 1947 in Breese, the son of Virgil and Ethel (Swofford) Carson, Sr.   He married Cheryl Marshall on February 28, 1969 at First Baptist Church in Vandalia.  He was retired from Caterpillar.  He was a US Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 device, 1 Oversea Bar, and Sharpshooter Badge with a M-14 rifle.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Carson of St. Elmo...sons, Lloyd "Bud" Carson, Jr. and wife Melissa of St. Elmo and Lucas Carson and wife Andra of St. Elmo...daughters, Amy S. Price of St. Elmo and Stephanie L. Smith and husband Andrew of Vandalia...brothers, Mike Carson and wife Grace of Brownstown and Virgil Carson, Jr. and wife Catherine of Sefton...sisters, Sharon Sidwell and husband Paul of Sefton, Melody Howard and husband Russ of Brownstown and Charlotte Atwood and husband Jim of Vandalia...and 13 grandchildren...and special little dog, "Lilly Rose Carson" of St. Elmo.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
