Robert B. "Bob" Hawickhorst, 83, of Effingham died at 7:35am Sunday, July 22, 2012 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 29 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham. Burial will follow in St. Anthony Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be held from 2-4:30 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at the church. Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, is in charge of arrangements. Robert was born April 28, 1929 in Effingham, the son of Albert and Mary (Habing) Hawickhorst. He married Mary G. “Becky” Overbeck August 6, 1955 in Effingham, and she preceded him in death February 14, 2006. Bob was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, Effingham. He was a member of the Effingham Knights of Columbus Council #665, 4th Degree. Bob was a past Grand Knight. He was a member of Effingham American Legion Post #120, and Effingham Elks Lodge #1016. Bob had worked for over 40 years in the sales department at Petty Printing Company, Effingham. Bob was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his joke telling and being an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Bob is survived by his daughters, Cynthia (husband Mike) Hoene of Effingham, Cathy (husband Jim) Bierman of Effingham, Christy (husband Dave) Walker of St. Charles, Mo., and Conny (husband Mike) Mitchell of Effingham; brothers, Fr. Maurus Hawickhorst OFM of Brazil, South America, Jerry (wife Norma) Hawickhorst of Columbia, Ben (wife Sandy) Hawickhorst of St. Louis, Mo., and Dick (wife Wendy) Hawickhorst of Teutopolis; sisters, Marie (husband Paul) Schmidt of Effingham, Rosie (husband Ron) Croak of St. Louis, Mo., and Joanie (husband Rog) Newenham of Beardstown; grandchildren, Kevin (wife Rachel) Hoene, Becca (husband Aaron) Niebrugge, Ross (wife Ashley) Bierman, Holly (husband Matt) Dust, Erin (husband Mark) Kramer, Emma Walker, Kelli (husband Zachary) Bishop, Stacia (husband Jason) Semple, and Anna Mitchell; great-grandchildren, Liv and Reese Hoene, Nora Niebrugge, Lucy Bierman, Elise and Edie Bishop, and Elana, Nina and Sylvia Semple.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Francis; and wife, “Becky”.
