Southern Illinois historian and authors Jon Musgrave, Ruthie Shelton and Angela Mason will hold a book signing in the Workman Room at Effingham Public Library from 11AM- 1PM on Tuesday, November 10.

Musgrave will have copies of his two 1920s-era works he has co-authored: "Inside the Shelton Gang," which he co-wrote with Ruthie Shelton, a granddaughter of one of the Shelton Brothers, and "Secrets of the Herrin Gangs."

A third book, "The Bloody Vendetta of Southern Illinois," serves as a prequel to events of Bloody Williamson, highlighting the dramatic history of 50 years earlier with the violence that plagued Williamson, Franklin and Jackson counties in the 1870s after the Civil War.

He will also have copies of three books he has edited, the local Civil War classic, "The Boy of Battle Ford" by W. S. Blackman, one on Abraham Lincoln that deals with stories the 16th president told during his first term of office, and another on the history of Gallatin County and southeastern Illinois.

Musgrave will be joined by his "Inside the Shelton Gang" co-author Ruthie Shelton, and Angela Mason, author of "Death Rides the Sky," about the 1925 Tri-State Tornado. Shelton will also be bringing her two novels which are part of her "The Untold Story" series loosely based on the second generation of the Sheltons after they fled to Florida. IllinoisHistory. com recently published the second edition of Mason's book on America's worst tornado. The book includes her interviews with more than four dozen survivors.

In addition to the Shelton book Musgrave will have the new third edition of his book on the Old Slave House which came out earlier this month, "Slaves, Salt, Sex & Mr. Crenshaw," as well as his other regional history titles, "The Bloody Vendetta of Southern Illinois," "The Handbook of Old Gallatin County" and "Lincoln," his collection of stories told by our 16th president during his first term of office.
