Kick off the holiday season in Effingham as the community celebrates a Hometown Christmas on Saturday, November 30th in downtown Effingham. The event is sponsored by The Effingham Central Business Group, the Effingham Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Effingham Convention and Visitors Bureau. Hometown Christmas begins with Small Business Saturday® - a day to celebrate and support the small businesses in our community. The Effingham Chamber of Commerce, located at 903 N. Keller Drive, will host a Coffee Stop from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m. The Chamber will be giving away $1,250 in American Express gift cards in recognition of the event. They will be distributing maps of local small businesses participating in the Small Business Saturday® promotion and will also have Small Business Saturday® items to give away. Register at any of the participating businesses for a chance to win one of the $25 gift cards. No purchase is necessary to register. Enjoy this unique shopping experience, taking advantage of the many holiday specials offered while browsing for unique gifts for those on your holiday shopping list. Like the Effingham County Facebook page for the latest updates and events of the businesses participating in the Small Business Saturday® promotion.

Welcome Santa to town at 4 p.m. as he travels down Jefferson Street arriving on the west side of the Courthouse square lawn to officially light the City of Effingham community Christmas tree at the first annual downtown Christmas tree lighting event!
Santa will then make his way to his house to greet and hand out treats to all of the children who come to visit him. Carolers will be filling the air with your favorite Christmas songs throughout the evening. There will also be complimentary horse-drawn carriage rides around the downtown area, along with children’s activities and other goodies. Santa will continue making visits to the Courthouse location throughout the holiday season.

Take a trip back in time reliving the history of Effingham County with a tour of the Effingham County Courthouse Museum. The 143 year old courthouse captures the past, present and future of our county’s history. Come in and share your family’s story with the staff. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. and admission is free to the public.
End your evening with a scenic drive through Community Park as the Wonderland in Lights light up the sky each evening beginning Thanksgiving evening. Hours are Sunday through Thursday 5 - 9 p.m.; Friday & Saturday 5 - 10 p.m. There is no cost to view the display, but donations are accepted. Santa will be at his house at the park each Saturday to hand small toys to the children.
Bring the entire family to downtown Effingham for a magical evening of fun
