Eastern Illinois University’s theatre department will kick-off the 2013-2014 season with “I Don’t Have to Show You No Stinking Badges!” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, September 20. The satirical comedy will take place in the Black Box Theatre. Tickets are online or at the Doudnd Fine Arts Center Box Office.
The play is a piercing, comic satire b Luis Valdez, best known for his play Zoot Suit and the movie La Bamba. Set withom the confines of a TV studio, the play explores the search for an authentic Chicano identity against the limiting stereotypes and restricted possibilities afforded Mexican-Americans in the 1980s Untied States. The play is directed by Christopher Mitchell and was made possible by special arrangement with the author, Luis Valdez.
Immediately following the opening night performance there will be a special talkback and panel discussion where audience members will be able to interact with cast members and discuss the play’s themes and characters. The talkback is sponsored by Eastern’s Latin American Student Organization (LASO).
General admission tickets are $12, senior tickets for those 62 and older are $10, and student tickets are $5. Tickets are avail online at www.eiu.edu/doudna or at the Doudna Fine Arts Center Box Office. Box Office hours are Tuesday through Thursday 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the scheduled performance.
