Are you undergoing cancer treatment?  Would a couple of hours spent relaxing, laughing and sharing with others help? If so, St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital Women’s Wellness is partnering with the American Cancer Society to offer the Look Good…Feel Better® session on Tuesday, August 27, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., at St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital’s Women’s Wellness Center at 900 West Temple Avenue, Suite 108, Effingham.

Look Good…Feel Better® is a free program that teaches make-up and skincare techniques to help women who are dealing with the appearance-related side effects of radiation and chemotherapy. The session gives individuals an opportunity to spend time in a relaxed, non-medical setting with others who may be going through a similar situation. The session is free, but registration is requested to ensure the proper make-up kit and materials are available for each participant.

“The Look Good…Feel Better sessions are a time to relax and have some fun with others who are facing similar challenges,” said Marilyn Boone, St. Anthony’s Women’s Wellness manager. “It is a great spirit booster. Come alone or bring a friend or family member for moral support, but please join us.”

There are dozens of anti-cancer drugs in use today, each with its own set of possible side effects, according to the American Cancer Society. Possible appearance-related effects of chemotherapy and radiation include: hair loss on the scalp, eyebrows or lashes; weight gain or loss; changes in skin pigmentation and texture; skin oiliness, itchiness or peeling; and alterations in nail texture and growth rate.

To register for Look Good…Feel Better session or to obtain information on additional programs, please contact Lawrence Underwood at the American Cancer Society at 217-356-9076, 800-252-1110 or lawrence.underwood@cancer.org.

Look Good…Feel Better® is offered through a partnership of the American Cancer Society; the Personal Care Products Council Foundation; and the National Cosmetology Association.
