Effingham Fourth of July

-- The annual Fourth of July parade in Effingham will start at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 4 at the intersection of Maple Street and Temple Avenue. There is no pre-registration and lineup is first-come, first-served. This year's theme is "America Spirit in Youth" and all Scouting organizations are invited to be the Grand Marshals for the parade. For more information, phone Effingham County Emergency Management Agency at 536-6169. All groups, organizations and businesses are welcome to join the parade.

-- There will be a new location for Effingham's annual fireworks show Thursday, July 4 at 9 p.m. Instead of being held at Hendelmeyer Park, the fireworks will be held at the Effingham High School sports complex. Parking is available in the high school parking lot as well as Sacred Heart Church. There will be seating available on the home side of the football field. No alcohol or tobacco will be permitted on school grounds. The rain date is Friday, July 5.
