AARP Tax Volunteer Information Meeting at the Suzette Brumleve Memorial Effingham Public Library

Join us Tuesday, October 16 at 10 a.m. in the Bauer Computer Room of the Suzette Brumleve Memorial Effingham Public Library for information on upcoming volunteer opportunities with AARP’s Tax Preparation Program. These volunteer opportunities include being greeters as well as being those that provide tax services.

For the past three years, the AARP Tax Aide program has provided tax assistance – mostly to senior citizens – at the Effingham Public Library. During the last tax season, Tax Aide volunteers helped nearly 120 people file their state and federal returns. But Tax Aide has a problem – none of the volunteers who have helped at the site lives in Effingham. Last year, tax counselors travelled in from outside this community to help in Effingham. During the next tax season, unless other volunteers step up, services in Effingham may need to be reduced.

More details about the program will be provided at the information meeting, and people will be provided assistance in signing up on the AARP Foundation website if they wish. Successful volunteers will be expected to attend three days of training (typically held in Centralia or Mt. Vernon) in January, 2019. Tax services will be provided each Tuesday from early February until early April. We hope to see you on October 16th. No Registration Required
