The Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT), the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre is coming to the Eastern Illinois University and they are looking for students ages kindergarten to 12th grade to be part of their production of Gulliver’s Travels.

Two MCT actor-directors will hold open auditions at 4:00 p.m. Monday, April 9 in the Dvorak Concert Hall located in the Doudna Fine Arts Center. The directors will select between 50 and 60 students to perform in Gulliver’s Travels on April 13 and April 14. No previous experience is necessary to be part of the production and there is no cost in participation. All that is needed is a desire to be part of a fun-filled production.

Children can be registered by calling (217) 581-8513, email decrews@eiu.edu, or send a message through the Doudna’s Facebook page.

The MCT tour team will arrive in Charleston with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play, except the cast. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and public performances will be presented at 7:30 Friday, a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Saturday, with a final performance at 7:30 p.m.

Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics that are attained through the participation in this unique, educational project. MCT’s mission is the development of life skills in children through participation in the performing arts.

“EIU’s Doudna is excited to offer this unique opportunity that provides great arts education and team building experience,” said Dan Crews, programming director at the Doudna Fine Art Center. “If parents have questions about the production, I would encourage them to get in contact with me. I think it will be a wonderful experience for the children in our community.”

The Missoula Children’s has been touring extensively for more than 40 years now from Montana to Japan, and will visit nearly 1,200 communities this year with up to 44 teams of Tour Actor/Directors. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales…a twist on the classic stories that you know and love.

The Doudna Fine Arts Center is located at 1860 South 7th Street in Charleston on the campus of Eastern Illinois University. Convenient free parking is located near the fine arts center.
