Effingham Public Library and Effingham Park District will host a joint Summer Kick Off Event on the evening of Friday, June 2 at Evergreen Park’s Red Pavilion. Activities begin at 6:30 p.m. At 7:50 p.m. there will be a showing of a popular family movie (with tons of music/singing). The movie centers on a theater-owning koala who decides to run a talent contest to boost ticket sales for his financially flagging theater. (PG, 148 min.)

The event is for all ages, and no registration or library card is needed. There will be free popcorn and families are encouraged to bring a blanket to sit on.

The event is designed to highlight all the different activities and programs both organizations offer the community over the summer months.

“Reading by Design!” is a summer reading program to encourage reading as well as life-long learning. The six week summer reading program is open to everyone from birth through adult. Sign up has begun and the first day to start claiming rewards is Tuesday, May 30.

For the second year, registration and tracking of reading and task completion will take place online, enabling anyone to take part in the program from home or on vacation using a mobile device or by using the computers at the library.  More information and sign up is available on the library’s website.www.effinghamlibrary.org or visit the library during open hours.

The library will also host lots of free extraordinary events and programs, allowing everyone to participate in fun reading and learning activities. 

A library card is not needed to participate in this free program or any of the events at the library and there is no cost.
