Effingham Public Library Hosts Talk to Baby

The Suzette Brumleve Memorial Effingham Public Library is excited to offer Talk to Baby, a new monthly emergent literacy program for caregivers and their infants. Created specifically for babies and their caregivers, Talk to Baby will share books, rhymes and song with babies and encourage families to make reading, singing and talking part of their daily routine.

The first session of Talk to Baby is Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Those with babies zero to six months can register for the 10 a.m. session while those with babies seven to twelve months will register for the 11 a.m. session. Each caregiver and baby should bring a blanket to allow for being comfortable on the floor.

To ensure that caregivers and babies have the best experience, registration is limited to 10 caregivers/babies per session.

Created in partnership with Effingham County Connections and Nurse Practitioner, Lenora Drees, each session will include information about developmental milestones and medical tips.

Emergent literacy recognizes and reinforces that children learn best from the important people in their lives. Sharing stories and rhymes, singing, talking and playing is not just fun, but good for little brains as well. It also develops and strengthens a parent or caregiver’s bond with their child.

To register for this free program, please go online to effinghamlibrary.org or call (217) 342-2464 x. 1.
