The 2012 Relay for Life of Effingham County is tonight.

Opening ceremonies are set for 6pm and the event will continue until 6am Saturday at the Teutopolis Junior High School track and grounds.  This year's theme is "Celebrate.  Remember.  Fight Back."

Grounds will open at 4pm.  There are more than 30 teams and some 300 participants, and close to $50,000 had been raised early this week.

A live auction featuring Trent Schmid of Schmid Auction Service will conduct a live auction at 5pm.  Items will include a camping package, a lawn angel, Tupperware and maybe some hair to be shorn off co-chairs Jan Pike and Cheryl Boone if the bids are high enough.  A "Tangled" ceremony is set for 7:30pm where more hair will be cut for use in wigs for cancer patients.

The opening ceremony at 6pm will feature Teutopolis Mayor Jerry Weber, survivor speaker Renae Roepke, caregiver speaker Jason Roepke, and fightback speaker Dr. Ruben Boyajian.  That hour will also feature the survivor walk.

The Luminaria ceremony is scheduled for the 9pm hour.  Luminaria will be available at our studios until 3pm today.

Silent auctions are scheduled at 6:55pm and 9:45pm.  Entertainment is scheduled by Charlie Brown, Cayla's Power Tumbling, the Altamont Drum Line and the Josh Koester Band.  There will also be a Little Miss and Junior Miss pageant.

Specialty laps will include a Pajama Lap, Mad Hatter Lap, Sparkle Lap and Toy Story Lap, plus there will be Zumba at 3am, or breakfast courtesy of the WalMart team.

Stop by our booth and pick up some Culver's frozen custard.  We hope to see you there!
