An Effingham woman was fatally injured in a collision south of town Monday evening, and two others were hurt, as well.

Effingham County Coroner Leigh Hammer reported 40-year-old Angela Van Scyoc was a front seat passenger in a vehicle involved in a two-vehicle crash at 7:25pm.

Watson Fire Chief Matt Kulesza said the crash occurred on US 45 at the State Police blacktop in Heartville.  Kulesza said the vehicle in which Van Scyoc was a passenger, driven by Brittany Hamby of Mason, collided with a SUV driven by Harold McGregor of Dieterich.  Van Scyoc had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham where she died at 8:18pm.  Hamby was injured and was airlifted to Carle Hospital in Urbana where she is listed in fair condition today.  Kulesza said a three-month-old girl, Adrina Van Scyoc, another passenger in Hamby's vehicle, was not injured in the crash.

Kulesza said US 45 was shut down for 40 minutes so an Air Evac helicopter could be brought to the scene of the crash.  Emergency crews cleared the scene at 8:41pm.

The Effingham County Sheriff's Department and Hammer's office are investigating the crash.  Shumway firefighters covered the Watson station while their crews were at the scene.  Effingham City-County Ambulance and Effingham Fire Department Rescue were also on scene.
