One of the four people injured in a collision of two four-wheelers north of Effingham Sunday night has died of his injuries.
19-year-old Jesse Kinkelaar of Effingham died at 9am Monday at Carle Hospital in Urbana. Kinkelaar had been airlifted to Carle from the scene of the crash.
The crash happened about 9pm in a rural area along 2000th Avenue, just east of 1150th Street. Effingham County Sheriff John Monnet said an ATV driven by 19-year-old Jennifer Thoele of Effingham slowed and was hit from behind by a four-wheeler driven by Kinkelaar. The impact threw both drivers off their vehicles onto the roadway, along with Thoele's passenger, 19-year-old Mark Mathis of Shumway and Kinkelaar's passenger, 18-year-old Morgan Slifer of Effingham.
As far as the other three injured, Slifer was first taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham and later was transferred to Carle, and Thoele and Mathis were taken to St. Anthony's for treatment.
Monnet said an investigation into the crash is continuing.
