A Litchfield man was injured in a fiery crash in the interstate construction zone south of Effingham.
The incident was reported at 2:37am Sunday on I-57 northbound, two miles south of Effingham. State police report a pickup truck driven by 29-year-old Neal Bergman of Litchfield was northbound moving into the single lane of the construction zone when the pickup ran off the road and struck a guard rail. The vehicle became fully engulfed in flames and the northbound lane was blocked by the crash.
Bergman was taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham for treatment of injuries. He was cited for DUI, improper lane usage, and illegal transportation of liquor.
