Plan Commission Okays Subdivision Plat for Nuxoll's

Effingham City Plan Commission members have recommended approval of a subdivision plat for Nuxoll's Food Store's new home.

The Nuxolls plan to build a store along South Banker on the old Fedders parking lot and relocate from their current longtime location near South Side School.  Commissioners voted to recommend the City Council approve a two-lot subdivision, with one lot to house the new store.

Commissioners also voted to recommend the City Council amend the Municipal Code to require all building canopies have a clearance height of at least 13 feet.  The increase in height is at the request of the Effingham Fire Department so the canopies would accommodate fire trucks.

The Plan Commission also agreed to recommend the City Council allow the County to have jurisdiction over an entire tract of land northwest of Effingham, some of which lies within and some of which lies outside the City's extra-territorial zoning jurisdiction.  The Council briefly discussed the issue at an earlier meeting and were told by City officials that the County follows the same basic guidelines for development as the City.
